Work in Cultural and Creative Third Places:

Unveiling Tensions and Aesthetics

This multidisciplinary research project provides a critical reading of work mutations in cultural and creative third places (CCTP’s). By using a mix-methodology combining longitudinal and art-design based methods we will explore the temporal, emotional and aesthetics dimensions of change. The research will unveil how creative workers manage tensions over time and the role of emotions and aesthetics. Results will contribute to provide new knowledge for organization studies, policy making and training.

Ce projet de recherche multidisciplinaire propose une lecture critique des mutations du travail dans les tiers lieux culturels et créatifs. En utilisant une méthodologie mixte combinant des méthodes qualitatives longitudinales et des méthodes basées sur l’art et le design, nous explorerons les dimensions temporelles, émotionnelles et esthétiques du changement. La recherche révélera comment les travailleurs créatifs gèrent les tensions au fil du temps et le rôle des émotions et de l’esthétique. Les résultats contribueront à fournir de nouvelles connaissances pour les études organisationnelles, l’élaboration des politiques et la formation.

Objectives and expected results

-O1: To conduct a critical, sensible and processual analysis of change in CCTP. Expected results: To unveil the coping strategies developed by cultural and creative workers in order to manage these tensions and thus provide new knowledge for organization studies, policy making and training.

-02: To experiment new modes of inquiry, dialogical tools, and dissemination devices placing ethnography, art and design at the heart of the scientific investigation process. Expected results: To impact scientific research through new methods; to provide insights about the role of art & design in scientific inquiry, these methods enabling inclusivity to other sensible data with a wide diversity of community participative devices.

-03: To apply key approaches emerging from objectives 1, 2, and to disseminate findings in an open access and creative manner. Expected results: Usability of the knowledge produced, high diffusion and coverage of the knowledge produced, appropriateness of the methodology in social studies in a variety of context and target populations.
